ABOUT WILFRED Y.
Since graduated from Academy of Art University in San Francisco with a degree in Graphic Design, Wilfred have moved to New york, Taipei, Yangon, Bangkok, and finally, to LA. During these travelings, Wilfred designed branding for world renown corporations, built a hotel, started an art collective, and make clothes and furniture. However, no matter what hats he wears, Wilfred's identity has always been an artist through and through. His art and brand tell the stories of his journeys– stories told through lines, compositions, and colors.
It all starts with a line, then the journey with a million possibilities begins. The process and development of a sketch is always organic. Lines drawn by an ink pen can be unforgiving. They are sharp and decisive. But still a freehanded drawing process is always better than drawing over pencil sketches, because the uncertainty will let the drawings become true records of a thought process.

THE ART
There are two different personalities living in Wilfred's collections of artwork. One likes to talk about specific places and people from memories, the other likes to talk about how the world is viewed through the artist's eyes- about how we cope with rapidly changing environments, about a world inescapable from media, technologies and contradictions.
THE PATTERNS
Ornate carvings used as decorations in a baroque church and beautifully drawn mandalas on a Burmese lacquerware both have something in common: visual repetitions. a symbol not bound by cultures. These classic motifs become inspiration for new visual languages. The Wilfred Y. patterns are eccentric and colorful collages that represent both the wimsy and chaos in this modern world.
